healthy-foodHealthy foods are essential for good health and wellness. If you want to spend your life living it filled with rich experiences, then you have to have good health. In fact, even if someone gets a bad disease, eating well is even more vital. What you put into your body can affect your risk of getting diseases such as heart disease and type 2 diabetes. It can also increase or decrease, depending on what you eat, your risk for a stroke. One should consider food as, “medicine––to maintain, prevent, and treat disease.”

So, before we get to what you should be eating for good food choices, let’s focus on some of the foods you would be making a mistake in eating. Often, people eat these foods because they’re easy or convenient. But, after years of ingesting these kinds of foods, you can significantly increase your chances of disease, which could shorten your life.

Food choices you should eliminate or minimize

Although you’ve heard for most of your life to eat your vegetables, there are some that you should avoid. Some of the veggies you want to stay away from include potatoes, corn, squash, and peas. They might taste good, but they are not healthy foods. These veggies have fewer vitamins than other vegetables. Additionally, they contain as much as three times the calories than other alternatives, which will only add useless calories to your body.

We know that many people love red meat as one of their food choices. But, there is a lot of evidence that you should minimize those food choices. While you don’t have to eliminate it from a health perspective, there are also sustainable reasons to at least limit it for the good of our planet. Concerning health, red meat can have lead to high cholesterol, which is not good for the heart. Red meat has also been linked to type 2 diabetes, diverticulitis, and perhaps even to breast cancer.

Finally, keep away from the sugar.  Eating more than the maximum allowance of 10 percent of sugar in your diet can cause weight gain. But, it can also cause acne, increase your chances of cancer, and quicken the aging process. Stay away from yogurts that are flavored, sugary drinks, and fruit juices.

Choices you should make for good health

Let’s now take a look at some of the food choices you can make for good health. But, let’s focus on the ones that taste good. One of the toughest challenges that people have to overcome when they decide to eat well is to find foods that they will enjoy. Therefore, let’s focus on the tasty foods that you’ll enjoy. It’s not an exhaustive list, and there are many types of foods, but it will help you get started in shifting how you eat if you are looking to change your diet.

Instead of picking up juices, switch to eating berries and fruits as a snack. They’re great health foods that are easy to snack on while you’re busy and taste great. As an example, strawberries are low in calories and have lots of vitamin C. Blueberries are excellent as antioxidants, which fight against free radicals which damage cells.

Vegetables are an essential aspect of a healthy diet, and they should be part of your food choices. So, which are tasty veggies that you’ll enjoy and not remember having to eat your vegetables at the dinner table as a kid? First, shift your perspective and think about how you prepare your veggies and create delicious foods. Look into recipes that include carrots, which is high in fiber and vitamin K. Other vegetables that are popular and tasty are kale and tomatoes.
